Our Nutty Soy Nut Business
Meet Tom, Wendy,
Cassandra, Logan...
and our smiling little Super Soy Nut mascot
How it all started
Back in 1998, we were living in Minnesota but had made plans to
move to Arizona. We had the good fortune to share a lake house with
a man whose parents were 3rd generation soy bean farmers. We became
good friends and he shared with us his family soy bean secrets!
He explained that starting
with the right soy bean seeds was the
all important difference between ending up with
light tender gourmet
soy nuts instead of ordinary hard-as-rocks soy nuts. We also learned
about GMO (and
why to avoid it), and about how it was really his
Grandma that got the whole family started in the soy nut business.
The night before we were to leave, we had an intimate good-bye
dinner with our friend. And to our mutual surprise, we discovered
that we had separately come up with the same idea! We wanted to
take the soy nut business west with us and he wanted to invite us
into his family business!
Westward Ho
Once in Arizona,
we rented a booth in a little arts & crafts show and set up
"shop". Our plan was that it would be just a nice little
part-time weekend business. But boy-oh-boy were we surprised!!
People everywhere were seeking out healthy snacks and the health
benefits of soy nuts were just starting to be widely publicized
in the media. We were amazed... people lined up at our booth as
soon as we arrived. We couldn't even get unpacked and the banner
up before we were mobbed.
As a result, our little soy nut business exploded overnight! Soon
we were both in it full time! We even enlisted the kids into our
fast growing family business.
Viva Las Vegas
Well, that was quite a few years ago, and we've since moved to
Las Vegas. Cassandra is 19 now, and goes to college here in Nevada.
She earns college spending money by working in the business, processing
the orders and doing all the packing and shipping for us.
Logan is 14 and busy being a typical teenager. I have to confess,
he's not as into soy nuts as he used to be. When he was younger
he really loved to help out in the booth, making just enough money
to buy himself some toys. But now, well... ol' Dad and his soy nuts
are not particularly "cool" anymore. Especially when Dad
drives around in a bright yellow truck sporting a large funny looking
soy nut cartoon! How embarrassing!
What's next?
We're just going to keep on bein' nuts! We truly love our soy nut
business and enjoy telling everyone who'll listen about the amazing
benefits of this small-but-mighty healthy snack.
So look for our bright yellow truck and give a shout and a wave
to Tom!
If you don't see him, don't worry... since we're all now in the
internet age, you don't have to wait for Tom to drive by your neighborhood.
You can simply
order some of our delicious soy nuts right here. Cassandra will
send 'em out to you ASAP.
Keep on snackin',
Tom & Wendy
